Environmental Engineer
Ms. Lixa Rodriguez-Ramon began her career with NASA in 1999 at the Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC), Greenbelt, Maryland. She serves as an Environmental Engineer with the Safety and Environmental Division. She has developed, improved, and implemented numerous occupational safety, health, and environmental programs to enhance the Center’s compliance and effectiveness of programs’ implementation.
In her 10 years at GSFC, Lixa has served as the Chair of the Center’s Hazardous Waste Minimization Team; Member of the Nanotechnology Safety Council; Member of the Hispanic Advisory Committee for Employees; GSFC Chemical Hygiene Officer; Executive Secretary of the Chemical Safety Committee.
RECONGNITION
Throughout her career, Lixa has received numerous awards. Recently, she was awarded the Goddard Inaugural Recognition Event award. This award recognizes employees with exemplary performance achievements. As a result, employees receiving this award will be recognized with the showcasing of a launch at NASA’s only owned and operational launch facility at Wallops Flight Facility in the eastern shore of the State of Virginia. In 2004, she was awarded the NASA Medal for Exceptional Achievement for her leadership, self-motivation, and innovation in the proposal, piloting, and subsequent Centerwide establishment of a new safety and health standard. Lixa has also received the Management Operations Directorate Innovation Award in 2002 and Teamwork Award in 2008.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
Lixa grew up in Añasco, Puerto Rico and received her B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus.
Outside of her professional career, Lixa is an active volunteer in her kids’ school. She serves in the Home & School Association; leads many fundraising and school activities; serves as a mentor for new families; and served in the school’s advisory board from 2004 to 2007.

NASA GSFC was established on May 1, 1959 in memory of an American Rocket Pioneer named Robert H. Goddard.
